Negotiations broke down in the Senate over the George Floyd “police reform” bill on Wednesday, mostly because it seeks, among other things, to replace police officers with social workers. It’s a “defund the police” bill and Republicans ain’t having it. Illegitimate president Joe Biden is deeply disappointed in the GOP and is threatening to use executive action to make the entire country much less safe.
Biden, or more likely one of his handlers, released a statement after Senate Republicans killed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which had been passed by the House:
The murder of George Floyd is a stain on the soul of America. It spurred the nation to collectively demand justice, and we will be remembered for how we responded to the call.
First of all, a scumbag dying form an overdose as he resisted arrest for a crime he committed, is not a stain on our nation’s soul. Secondly, the nation didn’t collectively demand “justice,” a small fringe group of looters and arsonists did.
That is why I strongly supported the House-passed George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and have long urged the Senate to join in passing meaningful police reform legislation that includes accountability when law enforcement officers violate their oaths.
Regrettably, Senate Republicans rejected enacting modest reforms, which even the previous president had supported, while refusing to take action on key issues that many in law enforcement were willing to address.
Not true. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, a black guy, introduced a police reform bill last year that democrats filibustered and he was one of the Republicans negotiating the George Floyd atrocity. Some of the things in Scott’s bill were also in the Floyd bill, but there was also a bunch of “defund the police” nonsense that were non-starters. Democrats wouldn’t negotiate the “modest reforms” because they clung to the defunding crap.
While Biden is pissed that law enforcement won’t be defunded by the Senate, he is confident in his ability to side-step Congress and pass the legislation from the Oval Office:
But this moment demands action, and we cannot allow those who stand in the way of progress to prevent us from answering the call.
The White House will continue to consult with the civil rights and law enforcement communities, as well as victims’ families to define a path forward, including through potential further executive actions I can take to advance our efforts to live up to the American ideal of equal justice under law.
Biden now defines the Constitutional separation of power as “standing in the way of progress.” If Trump had ever made such a statement, democrats would have accused him of degrading our institutions and destroying our democracy.
If Biden was in any way interested in justice or the law, he would respect the the law of the land, AKA the Constitution, and not try to legislate from the executive branch. It’s not the president’s job, even an illegitimate one like Joe, to pass laws.
I get it that Biden is frustrated that he can’t advance his agenda, even though democrats control both chambers of Congress. Maybe this should be a wake up call to Joe that his agenda is too extreme and whacko for moderates in his own party. Something needs to wake that guy up because he’s in coma right now.
