A Short History

Robert H.W. Welch, Jr., a retired candy manufacturer established in Indianapolis the John Birch Society, as a right-wing organization dedicated to fighting what it perceives to be the extensive infiltration of communism into American society.

Welch named the society in honor of John Birch, considered by many to be the first American casualty in the struggle against communism.

In 1945, Birch, a Baptist missionary and U.S. Army intelligence specialist, was killed by Chinese communists in the northern province of Anhwei. This from history.com.

The John Birch Society was initially founded with only 11 members and had by the early 1960s grown to a membership of nearly 100,000 Americans and received annual private contributions of several million dollars.

The society revived the spirit of McCarthyism, claiming in unsubstantiated accusations that a vast communist conspiracy existed within the U.S. government.

Among others, the organization implicated President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren.

However, after the debacle of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s public hearings in the early 1950s, America became more wary of radical anti-communism, and few of the society’s sensational charges were taken seriously by mainstream American society.

The John Birch Society remains active today, and its members seek “to expose a semi-secret international cabal whose members sit in the highest places of influence and power worldwide.”

For over 60 years, The John Birch Society has been the force that protects and restores American liberty and independence. Their local grassroots activism “is like no other.”

Standing at the forefront of the battle to restore Constitutional freedoms, they seek to secure a future with less government and more responsibility. This from jbs.org.

Patriots Needed Today

In the past 60 years, America has been moved ever further away from its founding principles of protecting life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Today, many of the forces that have done this operate in the open.

Deep State, Big Government, the Establishment, the Insiders, the Conspiracy, or whatever name is attached, these forces have driven America $20+ trillion into debt, while trampling our liberties, our country’s independence, and our way of life.

Does this sound like the country of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” that our founders envisioned?

They wrote in the Declaration of Independence — That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed. In other words, the Government was instituted to protect and secure our God given rights, not to abuse them.

America is desperately in need of its experienced patriots, and we have the only effective program that will solve the problem.

We Lead the Grassroots

Most organizations do not grasp the root or the full scope of the problem, so their solutions are ineffective.

Worse, they divert patriots away from real solutions, wasting their precious resources and leaving them frustrated.

The John Birch Society organizes patriots locally. We get out into the communities and educate our fellow Americans on immediate threats and build awareness among decision-makers as to the constitutional solutions they can use to stand up to tyranny.

Founder Robert Welch stated, “Education is our total strategy, and truth our only weapon.” They invite Americans to learn more about their action projects and how to get involved.

With your help, we will achieve less government, more responsibility, and — with God’s help — a better world.

The JBSers are concerned Americans from many races, religious beliefs, and national origins.

Since we were founded on December 9, 1958, we have been men and women of good character, humane conscience, and religious ideals who have worked together to safeguard the Constitution.

The John Birch Society states they are “principled, coordinated, and effective activism.”

Members are locally organized into small chapters and follow a National Agenda. By working as one, members create great pressure, and influence originates locally and is felt nationally.

Our Constitutional Mission

Our mission is to bring about less government, more responsibility, and – with God’s help – a better world by providing leadershipeducation, and organized volunteer action in accordance with moral and Constitutional principles.

The John Birch Society enthusiastically endorses the U.S. Constitution, and they have worked for over 60 years toward educating and activating Americans to abide by the original intent of the Founding Fathers.

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. – Declaration of Independence, 1776

The John Birch Society endorses the timeless principles of the Declaration of Independence which proclaimed that our personal rights come from God, not from government.

Myths vs. Facts

Myth: The JBS is a radical organization full of right-wing extremists. This from jbs.org.

Fact: The JBS is dedicated to restoring the Republic according to the vision of the Founding Fathers: limited government, individual liberty, and the rule of law. Along with America’s Founders, we believe that governments are instituted to protect individual rights and liberties, and are not formed to provide for the wants of individuals. To label JBS radical or extreme for agreeing with our nation’s Founders is to place that same label on them.

Myth: The JBS message is hate-filled.
Myth: The JBS Founder Robert Welch called President Dwight Eisenhower a Communist.
Myth: The JBS considers public water fluoridation part of a Communist mind-control plot.
Myth: The JBS is nothing more than a group of conspiracy theorists.
Myth: The JBS was booted out of the conservative movement by William F. Buckley.
