Biden and the democrats have made such a mess of things that there’s no real hope they will turn it around before the midterm elections. That doesn’t mean democrats are quite ready to throw in the towel yet. In what can only be described as a shameless attempt to buy votes in November, Joe Biden has forgiven a bunch of students loans and provided relief for others.
Reuters reports on Biden’s latest scheme to avoid a midterm ass-kicking:
The U.S. Department of Education has canceled student loan debt for 40,000 people and offered credits to help another 3.6 million pay off their loans under a plan announced on Tuesday designed to aid low-income borrowers and public servants.
The measures add to other steps taken by the administration of President Joe Biden, including a pause on nearly all student loan collection, but they stop short of demands from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party for comprehensive student loan forgiveness.
“Student loans were never meant to be a life sentence, but it’s certainly felt that way for borrowers locked out of debt relief they’re eligible for,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
At least 40,000 borrowers will receive immediate debt cancellation under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
Several thousand borrowers with older loans will also receive forgiveness through income-driven repayment (IDR) forgiveness, plus another 3.6 million borrowers will receive at least three years of additional credit toward IDR forgiveness, the Education Department said in a statement.
Those programs cap the amount lower-income borrowers are required to pay and forgive the remaining balance after a set number of years.
While this is not as bad as what AOC and Elizabeth Warren want, which is total cancelation of all student loans, it’s still bullshit. These people were all adults when they took out student loans and did so under their own freewill. This is the government teaching people that if you complain enough, you don’t have to be held responsible for your own actions.
And what about the people who did repay their student loans? Or parents who paid for their children’s education. I paid my son’s college tuition, can I get the government to reimburse that money? Of course not because this is also the government teaching people that being responsible is a punishable offense.
I have several questions regarding this sham, the first being: How were the 40,000 people who will have their student debt wiped out selected? If I were a betting man, I’d put money on race being a factor. Biden has often called student loans racist, saying it disproportionately affects people of color, so I bet he’s wiping out black people’s student loans to bolster his support in the black community.
Second: how can a president, even an illegitimate one, simply cancel student debt? These loans are government loans which means it’s our money and so is the repayment of that money. Normally you need an act of Congress to flush taxpayer money down the toilet.
Lastly, since people don’t have to repay loans they took out under their own power, can I get Biden to cancel my mortgage? Why the hell should have to keep paying for a thing of value I took out a loan to acquire?
