CNN+ Bites The Dust

Less than a month ago CNN launched a streaming service that they said would change the face of news. 25 days later, CNN+ has been taken behind the barn and shot to to death. Apparently the big problem was nobody figured out why people would pay for something they wouldn’t watch for free.

Fox News reports:

Warner Bros. Discovery has pulled the plug on CNN+ after the network’s recently launched streaming service failed to resonate with viewers. It will cease operations on April 30.

The decision comes after widespread speculation that CNN’s new parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, would scale back or eliminate the service after a long-planned merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia was completed earlier this month. Many industry insiders have wondered why CNN even launched the service when the merger was looming.

Actually, the decision comes because the streaming services was getting less than 10,000 views a day. We do that kind of business here at Def-Con News and we don’t have nearly the overhead. Also, we didn’t sink $300 million into this website like CNN did with their streaming service.

Fox News is reporting this in as professional manner as possible but you know they are cracking up about this predictable failure. Here’s the picture that was included with the article:

You may notice that Chris Wallace is a ghost. If you remember, he left Fox for a big important position at CNN. Talk about bad decisions. Brian Stelter is also a ghost and word is that he’s about to be fired from the CNN mothership as well.

I don’t actually care how CNN is reporting on this news, but one Twitter user has a pretty good idea:

Too funny.

Speaking of funny, here’s how Donald Trump summed things up:

“Congratulations to CNN+ on their decision to immediately FOLD for a lack of ratings, or viewers in any way, shape, or form. It was like an empty desert out there despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars and the hiring of low-rated Chris Wallace, a man who tried so hard to be his father, Mike, but lacked the talent and whatever else is necessary to be a star. In any event, it’s just one more piece of CNN and Fake News that we don’t have to bother with anymore!” Trump said in a statement.

Last June Def-Con News reported on CNN+ and accurately predicted its failure. I’m not bragging because that’s like saying Joe Biden will embarrass himself or Kamala Harris will laugh at something. Still, we called it:

There’s a fat ugly 50-year-old woman in a bar who spends the entire night trying to get someone to take her home for a night of horrid sex but she gets no takers. At last call, she stands in front of the bar and asks people if they want to pay her for sex. This is what CNN has become. The fake news network that nobody will watch for free is launching a streaming service that people will have to pay for.

I also can’t find out how much the CNN service is going to cost but let’s be honest, anything is too much. If they charged a nickel a year, nobody would pay for it.

There are already way too many steaming services…One more, featuring unwatchable shit that isn’t good enough to make it on CNN proper, isn’t likely to succeed. especially considering how unwatched free CNN is.

CNN+ was canceled because nobody watched it, which brings up a fair question: when is CNN going down? Nobody watches that either and they have a much higher operating cost.
