Having tried nothing to reduce the high gas prices he caused, Joe Biden is all out of ideas. Well, he has one: a gas tax holiday, which would reduce the price of gas by pennies for a few months. It’s clearly a bullshit solution and even Joe’s old boss, Barack Obama, once called it a gimmick and bad energy policy.
“What I’m proposing is suspending the federal gas tax,” said Biden. “By suspending the 18 cent gas tax, federal gas tax, for the next 90 days we can bring down the price of gas and give families just a little bit of relief.”
“Little” being the most important word here. Gas is averaging $5.00 a gallon nationwide and in places like California, it’s around $6.50. $4.72 a gallon is pretty much the same thing as $5.00 and that doesn’t make much of a difference to people who are struggling.
Also, why does Biden think only families buy gas? Single people buy gas too.
On top of not making much of a difference at the pump, suspending the federal gas tax for 3 months would also cost the Highway Trust Fund $10 billion. That fund goes to maintain our nations roadways and the money will need to be repaid. The question is, where is Biden going to find the money for that? My guess would be by raising the federal gas tax, which makes this one of his worst ideas yet.
In essence this spending money we don’t have, which is one of major drivers of inflation and why gas is so high to begin with.
And a funny thing is, Barack Obama, way back in 2008, had this to say about a proposed 3-month gas tax holiday:

Wait, it gets funnier:
“We are offering gimmicks…that means we’re not offering a truthful response to the challenges in America. We can do better than this,” Obama said.
Apparently Joe Biden can’t do better.
Obama never wanted Joe Biden to run for president because he knew it would be an embarrassment. I don’t think even he had any idea how bad Joe would be at the job.
As dumb as this is, Biden kind of hinted that a gas tax holiday probably won’t even cut the price of a gallon by 18 cents. He begged gas station owners to pass the saving on to consumers, which means he’s pretty sure they won’t. There’s a law that say they have to collect federal taxes but no law that says they have to stop collecting them.
Even if it does work, Biden promised his gas tax holiday would save consumers 3.6% which is laughable when you consider that gas has more than doubled since he took office. This is like bragging that his disastrous illegitimate presidency has suddenly become 3.6% less shitty. It’s still way too shitty.
