Chicago Cops No Longer Allowed To Chase Suspects On Foot

The criminals of Chicago were definitely not fearing arrest before and now they have even less reason to. The Chicago PD is implementing a policy that bans officers from pursuing suspects on foot. Now, if you’re a bad guy and the cops are coming, you can escape justice by lightly jogging away.

Last year police shot and killed  13-year-old Adam Toledo and 22-year-old Anthony Alvarez in separate incidents. Both of the scumbags were armed and in both cases police pursued them on foot before killing them. Also, both of them were people of color so the liberal asswipes who run the city demanded action. This is what they came up with, as reported by The NY Post:

The Chicago Police Department has unveiled a new policy prohibiting its officers from chasing people on foot simply because they run away, or because they have committed minor offenses.

The policy, which was introduced Tuesday, also encourages cops to “consider alternatives” to pursuing someone who “is visibly armed with a firearm.”

Alternatives like what? Crying about it on Instagram? Call in a drone strike?

“People may avoid contact with a member for many reasons other than involvement in criminal activity,” reads the policy.

I think science has shone that when someone runs at the sight of a police officer, it’s because they are up to no good. They possess something illegal, have a warrant, or just committed a crime. What are these other reasons?

Officers are also prohibited from provoking chases, such as by employing a tactic in which they speed in their squad cars toward a group of people, stop suddenly and jump out “with the intention of stopping anyone in the group who flees.”

Wow. How are cops supposed to get the jump on suspects or serve warrants?

This may be the funniest thing about the new policy:

The long-awaited foot chase ban is expected to go into effect by the end of the summer, after the city’s 11,900 uniformed cops receive training.

They have to be trained in the art of standing still?

And this is the most delusional thing about the new policy:

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown told reporters Tuesday that police had been discussing a foot pursuit policy “for several years before those shootings happened.”

He said he expects the new rules will make the officers and the public safer, as has happened in other cities that have adopted similar policies.

Not catching violent criminals and getting them off the streets does not make the public safer no matter who you spin it.

All of the racial justice initiatives like bail reform and not prosecuting minorities for crimes they have committed has only made things less safe. Throwing in a ban on police foot pursuits will make things worse.

Since the Summer of Floyd riots and the subsequent “justice reform” liberal city leaders have put criminals on the honor system and we all see how well that has worked out. For some reason you can’t tell criminals that they won’t be arrested and have them obey the law.
