The left has been struggling to exploit the beating death of black man, Tyre Nichols, because the officers that killed him were also black. Al Sharpton is a veteran race hustler and so he was able to make this black-on-black killing into something racist by claiming Nichols would be alive if he were white.
On January 7, Tyre Nichols was pulled over by the Memphis, Tennessee police department for reckless driving. The stop quickly escalated and 5 black MPD officers pepper-sprayed and Tased the 29-year-old black man. Once the officers were able to restrain Nichols, they beat him with fists and batons for 3 minutes. He was hospitalized in critical condition and died from his injuries 3 days later.
The 5 black officers were fired from the Memphis PD and charged with 2nd degree murder.
While certainly an extreme example of police brutality, this incident had nothing to do with race other than that all those involved were black. At Tyre Nichols’ funeral however, Al Sharpton claimed it was all about racism.
Sharpton started off by asking himself a question: “’Well, Reverend Al, you don’t understand: how are they going to keep crime down in the black community and, at the same time not be tough and rough?’”
Which he then answered: “Well, the same way they do it on the white side of Memphis and keep the crime down, without being rough and tough.”
“How do you have the same department and keep crime down on one side of town without beating folk to death, but you can’t do it on the other side of town unless you feel that you can get away with it there?” Sharpton asked.
While it seems like Sharpton has stumbled upon the reality that crime is higher in black areas because of black criminals, he wasn’t ready to embrace that truth. Instead, he made this ridiculous claim:
“I can’t speak for everybody in Memphis, I can’t speak for everybody gathering, but for me, I believe if that man had been white, you wouldn’t have beat him like that that night,” said Sharpton.
So, the black officers are racist against black people? Maybe, and I’m just spitballing here, the black cops are just assholes.
And who is Sharpton trying to kid? He honestly believes he speaks for all black people. It’s literally his job to be the voice of the black community, whether they like it or not.
In fact, after calling the black officers “a disgrace to your race,” Sharpton spoke on behalf of the black community:
“Did you think because you was Black, we wouldn’t say nothing? Did you think you would hide behind your Blackness? I want to say it loud and clear that we will fight black cops, white cops, any color cops that commit crimes against us,” Sharpton said.
I didn’t realize that Sharpton was a victim in this, but apparently he thinks so.
Also, what is there to fight? The officers were fired and charged with murder. The system works and is delivering justice in this case. Then again, Sharpton can’t get paid if he can’t race hustle, so it’s important that he makes black people believe he is doing something for them, when he is not.
