Even The Liberal Media Calls BS On Ocasio-Cortez’s Latest Whopper

Democrats and especially the increasingly powerful socialist wing of the party has been able to lie with abandon to the American people and the media has rarely if ever called them on their bullshit which is acceptable as long as it is anti-Trump even though it’s shoddy journalism.

But to paraphrase Bob Dylan, the times may be a changing.

Soon to be Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues to churn out more Whoppers than Burger King.

The 29-year-old socialist’s sensation’s latest fib, a fudging of the numbers to justify the implementation of Medicare for all was so outrageous a twisting of truth that the same media that continually gives her a pass had to call her out.

Ocasio-Cortez came under fire for a Sunday tweet in which she cited “21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions” that have gone missing.

Her emotion-driven, low-information supporters ate it up but unfortunately for the woman once called the “future” of the Democratic party by DNC boss Tom Perez, the numbers were vastly inflated as the Pentagon hasn’t spent that much money during the entire time that it has existed.

Brian Riedl who is a senior fellow at the non-profit Manhattan Institute quickly stomped on Ocasio-Cortez’s bogus claim.

But then came the real indignity: the adoring liberal media turned on her as well with the anti-Trump Washington Post awarding her the dubious honor of the dreaded “Four Pinocchios” for her fibbing.

Via the WaPo, “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s $21 trillion mistake”:

The Pinocchio Test

Swing and a miss!

Ocasio-Cortez is not the first Twitter user to mangle information from a news report. But it’s unconvincing to try to pass this off as a rhetorical point being misread. She cited the $21 trillion figure and said “66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon.”

That’s a direct comparison. It’s badly flawed. The same article she referenced on Twitter would have set her straight. The tweet is still up, probably causing confusion. So we will award Four Pinocchios to Ocasio-Cortez.

The reliably liberal New York Times also blasted Ocasio Cortez as well.

Via the NYT, “The Misleading Claim That $21 Trillion in Misspent Pentagon Funds Could Pay for ‘Medicare for All’”:

For starters, the combined Pentagon budget from 1998 to 2015 was $9.2 trillion…

…So where did the $21 trillion figure originate?

It comes from an analysis of the Pentagon’s “unsupported journal voucher adjustments,” by Mark Skidmore, an economist at Michigan State University. The term refers to improperly documented accounting adjustments that are made when different financial ledgers do not match.

In other words, $21 trillion is the total value of adjustments made to the Pentagon’s financial records over those years that could not be traced.

That is not the same thing as $21 trillion in spending.

David Norquist, the Pentagon’s comptroller, explained in testimony to Congress in January that the adjustments occur after money is spent because “we have systems that do not automatically pass data from one to the other.”…

…The same article from The Nation that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez quoted also noted that Professor Skidmore’s analysis “does not contend that all of this $21 trillion was secret or misused funding” and that the transfers “are found on both the positive and the negative sides of the ledger, thus potentially netting each other out.”

To add insult to injury, the vaunted PolitiFact piled on.

OUCH!

Could the tide finally be turning and the media actually doing their job now that the former taco bar bartender is now a member of the United States Congress and should be held to higher standards?

Will her free pass now be revoked?

We can only hope.
