Democrat Motion To Condemn Anti-Semitism Delayed As Progressives Defend Omar

Via Zero Hedge

A House vote on a resolution introduced by speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other leading Democrats to formally condemn anti-Semitism in response to recent statements by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been delayed, after several progressive groups and lawmakers came to Omar’s defense – while others have pushed for the motion to be rewritten to include all forms of prejudice.

The resolution follows the second comment by Omar in two months, the first of which accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) of contributing to pro-Israel politicians, and the second – made last Wednesday during a Washington event with Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, in which Omar said “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

Omar’s comments sparked condemnation – including a formal letter of rebuke issued on February 11 by House Democratic Leadership over the AIPAC comments. Others brought up Omar’s past comments criticizing Jews for ‘hypnotizing’ the world. After her AIPAC comments, Omar issued a statement in which she “unequivocally apologized” for unintentionally invoking “anti-Semitic tropes,” though she stood behind her criticism of “the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics.”

In response to the pushback, Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said on Tuesday that the draft resolution would be updated to include additional language rejecting anti-Muslim bias with a vote likely on Thursday, however according to Politico some Democrats believe an entirely new document may be crafted.

“We’re still discussing it,” said Hoyer on Tuesday. “The sentiment is that it ought to be broad-based. What we’re against is hate, prejudice, bigotry, white supremacy, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism.”

“Yes, we’re strongly against anti-Semitism, but we’re strongly against prejudice directed at any group,” Hoyer added.

DNC Blacklisting Of Fox News Proves GOP Needs To Fight Media

Via The Federalist

The Democratic National Committee is refusing to allow Fox News Channel to televise any of its candidate debates during the 2019-2020 cycle, according to the Washington Post.

DNC Chair Tom Perez cited an article written by liberal journalist Jane Mayer of The New Yorker for his decision. Her article alleged that Fox News Channel, which has been less hostile and hysterical about the man elected president by the United States electorate than its counterparts at every other television outlet, was too close to the Donald Trump White House.

Fox News’ opinion hosts include Trump-loving Sean Hannity. Its news hosts, including Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, Shannon Bream, and Chris Wallace, are far more objective than those at other broadcast media outlets. Liberal Trump critic Shep Smith is also billed as a news host. Other media outlets frequently blur the line between news and opinion, with CNN hosts Jake Tapper, Brian Stelter, Chris Cuomo, and Don Lemon mixing their liberal opinions with occasional bouts of news.

Whole Foods Adopts $15 Minimum Wage, Then Starts Slashing Workers’ Hours ‘Significantly’

Via The Daily Wire

The dream of the $15 minimum wage was finally realized among Amazon employees after the company caved to mounting pressure and implemented it company-wide on Nov. 1. But according to a new report, the improved wages aren’t working out as many employees had hoped at Amazon’s Whole Foods grocery store chain.

The Guardian reported Wednesday that employees at Whole Foods, which Amazon purchased back in 2017, have experienced a dramatic drop in schedule shifts since the raised wages were introduced.

Along with the new $15 minimum wage for the entry-level positions, some higher-level Whole Foods employees have also enjoyed a $1 to $2 increase in hourly wages, the outlet notes. It all sounds good — until employees’ schedules are taken into account. Since the wage increase in November, Whole Foods employees say they’ve experienced “widespread cuts that have reduced schedule shifts across many stores, often negating wage gains for employees,” The Guardian reports.

The employees, speaking on condition of anonymity “for fear of retaliation,” revealed to the outlet that they’ve seen an average of about a 30% reduction in hours per week for part-timers and about a 10% reduction for full-timers.

An Illinois-based worker told The Guardian, “My hours went from 30 to 20 a week,” after the $15 minimum wage hike.

‘Woke’ America has come for Horton Hears a Who, arguing that it reinforces white supremacy

Via The Washington Examiner

Academics must be running out of books to ban.

Diversity experts are so desperate to kill the darlings of children’s literature that they’ll write their own fiction just to smear Dr. Seuss.

Just look at the title of a “study” published in a peer-reviewed literature journal last month: “The Cat is Out of the Bag: Orientalism, Anti-Blackness, and White Supremacy in Dr. Seuss’s Children’s Books.” It makes you wonder whether it isn’t part of some elaborate prank.

Theodor Seuss Geisel wasn’t perfect, and you don’t have to tell any falsehoods to recognize that certain themes in his writing and political cartoons are cause for concern. Black characters in his books are depicted in indigenous garb and Asians have buck teeth. Worse, he created anti-Japanese propaganda for the Army during World War II, once depicting the Japanese as monkeys and referring to them by the common derogatory term “Japs.” He even drew a cartoon portraying Japanese Americans as traitors.

Long before World War II, in college, Geisel had also drawn a cartoon where Jews had large noses and Jewish merchants haggled over money. The study mentions this and other legitimate concerns with Geisel and his work.

But in some ways, Geisel was a champion of diversity: He was vehemently anti-Nazi, and he said his opposition to anti-Semitism inspired the book The Sneetches, where some of the mythical creatures think they’re better than others based on their appearance.

Scholars have previously argued that Horton Hears a Who! is an apology for Geisel’s anti-Japanese views. But this study’s authors think they know better. “Regardless of the intention of the book,” they write, “the impact is that it reinforces themes of White supremacy, Orientalism, and White saviorism.”

Transgender Madness

Via The American Thinker

While we all go about our daily lives, transgender advocacy organizations have pushed changes in the military, sports, our schools, even the pageantry world. As a society, we haven’t been accorded the opportunity to have an honest, comprehensive national conversation about transgender issues and whether individuals should be free to transition absent scientific proof. Debate has been carefully stifled by the proponents of all things transgender, issues are not presented as questions but foregone conclusions, and any credible opposition is “transphobia” and “hate” punishable by public humiliation—people lose their jobs, credibility, memberships in organizations; they’re excommunicated from social media, harassed, labelled, and doxxed if they dare question the trans-orthodoxy of the Democrat-Media Complex and LGBTQ Mafia.

Ironically, there is no deference to science on these issues unless radical academics can contort the science to fit the cause.
