Zero percenter Eric Swalwell is running for president on a gun control platform. He has previously promised to nuke all gun owners who resist efforts to disarm law-abiding Americans, but now this plan includes nuclear annihilation for owning what he considers an excessive amount of ammunition. The California democrat unveiled his gun control platform today and it includes a provision that would only allow people to own 200 rounds of ammunition.
Swalwell’s gun control proposal, should he be elected president, is terrifyingly unconstitutional with gun bans, magazine bans, a federal registry, licensing requirements, and the removal of due process. I guess maybe because I’ve heard most of this before, the thing that stuck out most to me were the restrictions he wants to put on ammunition:
Implement background checks for all firearm and ammunition purchases…
Require that all people or businesses selling more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition in a 30-day period be federally licensed…
Prohibit the online sale of ammunition.
And then there’s this:
Limit ammunition sales for individual purchasers to 200 rounds per 30-day period.
Prohibit individuals from hoarding ammunition in quantities exceeding 200 rounds per caliber or gauge.
200 rounds? What’s that, like 4 boxes of ammo? Or half a trip to the shooting range? Seriously, most gun owners I know have way more ammo than this and burn through more on a typical trip to the range. Under Swalwell’s plan, shooting ranges will go out of business because nobody’s going to pay a range fee to fire off a handful of rounds.
I keep a minimum of 500 rounds per gun, which I replace every time I go shooting. You gotta have that much on hand in case the shit hits the fan (zombie apocalypse, civilization collapsing, another democratic presidency, etc…). This is ridiculous and unenforceable.
I wonder where this arbitrary number comes from. Does Swalwell think it’s impossible to commit a mass shooting with 200 rounds. I’d be willing to bet that besides the Las Vegas shooter, not one single mass shooter has ever fired more than 200 rounds.
The thing is, with ammo that is relatively cheap like .22 and 9mm, you stock up and then go have fun plinking away all day. Also, when you buy any ammo in bulk, you save a lot of money. Not only wouldn’t this law do anything to stop mass shootings, it will significantly raise the cost of owning and operating a firearm. My guess is that’s the real reason behind this otherwise pointless plan.
Swalwell’s plan is garbage, but it’s also kind of funny. He would also like to ban firearms sales at funeral homes. Why? Who f*cking knows?
Require federally licensed firearms dealers to conduct their business only in commercial sporting goods or firearms premises, not from their homes, funeral homes, or other premises that are not otherwise related to sporting or firearms.
Don’t funeral homes bury people who died from gunshot wounds? That seems related to firearms to me. It’s utterly bizarre that he called funeral homes out by name as places he wants to restrict firearms sales. Why not the gynecologist’s office or Chuck E. Cheese?
In presenting this unconstitutional load of crap Swalwell says, “I will fight like hell to give people a reason to live.”
I already have plenty of good reasons to live (family, dog, beer, etc..) but the Swalwell plan gives me one more: to make sure he never becomes President of the United States and implements any of this crap. Granted, he doesn’t have one single supporter in his presidential bid, but everyone else could suddenly drop out of the race including President Trump and then what?
