Democrats Threaten Supreme Court Against Taking Any 2nd Amendment Cases

I would say the democrats are drunk with power but they aren’t in power so they must just be drunk. A group of Senate democrats have issued a direct threat to the Supreme Court of the United States directing them not to take any 2nd Amendment cases and more specifically, to not rule in favor of gun ownership rights. The consequences, the democrats say, would be a restructuring of the court, which means they would pack the bench with liberal Justices, shifting the balance of power away from a conservative majority.

Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. filed a brief with the Supreme Court in relation to a New York gun law that is being challenged. Basically these democrats said, don’t take the case or else:

The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it. Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be “restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics.” Particularly on the urgent issue of gun control, a nation desperately needs it to heal.

In the brief the democrats complain that the conservative majority has ruled in favor of gun rights before like in the DC v. Heller case and want SCOTUS to knock it off. They also bitch that the NRA supported Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the bench and say this is a reason why he shouldn’t be allowed to rule on gun cases.

Then the democrats straight-up say the SCOTUS is in the pocket of the NRA:

Out in the real world, Americans are murdered each day with firearms in classrooms or movie theaters or churches or city streets, and a generation of preschoolers is being trained in active-shooter survival drills. In the cloistered confines of this Court, and notwithstanding the public imperatives of these massacres, the NRA and its allies brashly presume, in word and deed, that they have a friendly audience…

The democrats also accuse SCOTUS of trying, “to rewrite and expand the Second Amendment,” by taking and ruling on gun cases. I guess they kind of forgot that the literal job of the Supreme Court is to interpret the Constitution and rule on the Constitutionality of things. In case they aren’t aware, the 2nd Amendment is in the Constitution.

It gets worse because the democrats then shake their fists at SCOTUS for violating the Constitutional separation of powers. They accuse the court of legislating from the bench with no actual examples of this. Keep in mind that these are members of Congress telling the Supreme Court how they are allowed to do their job, which actually is a violation of the separation of powers.

Imagine if President Trump told the democratic-controlled in the House that they had to vote for his bill or he would restructure the chamber to strip them of their majority. It would be a Constitutional crisis and a direct threat to democracy, and yet this is exactly what the Senate democrats are doing with the Supreme Court. In fact they call SCOTUS ruling on gun cases a threat to, “the preservation of the separation of powers that sustains our constitutional form of government.”

And what this actually all comes down to is that the conservative majority SCOTUS doesn’t rule the way democrats would like them too:

With bare partisan majorities, the Court has influenced sensitive areas like voting rights, partisan gerrymandering, dark money, union power, regulation of pollution, corporate liability, and access to federal court, particularly regarding civil rights and discrimination in the workplace. Every single time, the corporate and Republican political interests prevailed.

Tough shit. Obama once said “elections have consequences” and it was one of the few things he was right about. The President gets to nominate Supreme Court justices and they generally choses judges that share their ideologies. Obama picked some crazy leftists and Trump chose solid conservatives. That’s just how it goes.

Now all we have to do is sit back and watch the liberal media ignore a bunch of Senate democrats threatening the Supreme Court. It would be a big deal if Republicans did it, but you know how it is.
