Illinois has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country, but hasn’t stopped Chicago from being a blood-soaked war zone. Anyone with a half a brain knows that gun control doesn’t work but these laws are apparently so ineffective that they can’t even stop the democrats who pass them from breaking them. An Illinois state Rep. who supports stronger gun control was recently busted illegal carrying a firearm. Yes, he is a democrat.
Pentagraph.com reports that stat Rep. Curtis Tarver II was out cruising around in his Chevy earlier this week when police pulled him over. At some point the lawmaker will undoubtedly claim he was racially profiled, but the fact of the matter is, he had a broken headlight. As officers talked to Tarver, they noticed a handgun sitting in plain sight.
Tarver said he had concealed carry permit for the gun, but when police ran his information, it turned out his permit was revoked. Police arrested Tarver and charged him with a a misdemeanor count of not having a valid concealed carry license. They also gave him a ticket for the broken headlight, which is probably also racism.
Tarver told The Chicago Tribune that this was all an honest mistake:
State Rep. Curtis Tarver II insisted Friday that he had both a valid firearms owner card and a concealed carry license when he was stopped with a gun inside his car this week, but claimed Chicago police records were out of date and so he was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor.
“What appears to have been a clerical error regarding my concealed carry license resulted in my arrest. I fully expect this case will be resolved quickly and without incident,” said Tarver in a statement.
In his statement, Tarver said he renewed his concealed carry license this summer and when his Firearms Owner Identification card later expired Tarver said he renewed it too. Under Illinois law, a person must have a valid FOID card to have a concealed carry license.
Tarver said he renewed his FOID card Nov. 16, two days before the traffic stop.
“While I had no way of knowing, this renewal purportedly was not yet reflected in Chicago Police Department records. The department acknowledged that my FOID was valid as of November 16. This was two days prior to the traffic stop, indicating that the concealed carry license should also be valid,” Tarver said.
So the police had a record of his FOID card renewal 2 day later, but no record of his concealed carry license from 3 months ago? Sounds like a lie to me. As the first report says, Tarver’s license was “revoked” meaning that it was taken away from him for a pretty good reason. The Tribune noted that when a person in Illinois has a license revoked, they are legally obligated to surrender their firearm.
Now here’s the most relevant paragraph in this story:
Tarver noted that he has been a supporter of stronger gun control laws. “Like many people in Chicago, I applied for a concealed carry license in order to keep myself and my daughter safe,” he said. “I take considerable efforts to ensure that I am always in compliance with our state’s laws and following safe practices for handling a firearm.”
In other words, he works hard to make sure Illinoisans can’t own a gun to protect themselves and their families, but he feels entitled to carry a gun to protect himself and his family.
This story is democrats in a nutshell. They want to control our lives, but aren’t obligated to live by those same rules because they feel intellectually and morally superior. They think the people are all too stupid to make their own decisions so they have appointed themselves custodians of our freedom. The only truly stupid thing among the people is that some of them keep voting democrats into office.
