If it wasn’t clear before it’s crystal now that Nancy Pelosi has no idea what constitutes an impeachable offense. She and the democrats have announced they are drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump for an unspecified crime. Meanwhile, Pelosi characterized Bill Clinton’s impeachment for the actual crime of perjury as him doing something stupid. If stupidity were a crime, the entire democratic party would be locked up.
Pelosi took part in a CNN town hall on Thursday, the same day she announced the articles of impeachment against Trump, but for some reason didn’t feel like talking about impeachment.
“Can we not have any more questions about impeachment?” Pelosi scolded host Jake Tapper.
Much to Pelosi’s chagrin, there were more questions about impeachment. One audience member wanted to know why Pelosi never tried to impeach George W. Bush.
“When I became Speaker the first time, there was overwhelming call for me to impeach President Bush on the strength of the war in Iraq which I vehemently opposed…I knew there were no nuclear weapons in Iraq. It just wasn’t there. They had to show the Gang of Four all the intelligence they had. The intelligence did not show that that was the case. So I knew it was a misrepresentation to the public. But having said that, it was a — in my view, not a grounds for impeachment,” said Pelosi.
So Pelosi just accused President Bush of lying to get the U.S. into a war, but didn’t think that was an impeachable offense? If that were true, that’s exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they gave Congress the power to impeach and remove a president from office.
Pelosi also doesn’t think what Bill Clinton did was impeachable:
“But I said, if somebody wants to make a case, bring it forward, but they had impeached Bill Clinton for personal indiscretion and misrepresenting about it. Some of these same people are [now] saying, ‘Oh, this doesn’t rise to impeachment.’ Right there, impeaching Bill Clinton for being stupid in terms of something like that,” Pelosi said.
Misrepresenting? Does she mean lying? Under oath? Because that’s something we call “perjury” which is a felony BTW.
“I mean, I love him, I think he was a great president, but being stupid in terms of that, and what would somebody do, not to embarrass their family. But in any event, so they did Bill Clinton, now they want me to do George Bush, I just didn’t want it to be a way of life in our country,” finished Pelosi.
Bill Clinton lied under oath, was stripped of his law license, and fined. As a result of this perjury, which is an actual crime, he was impeached, not by Republicans like Pelosi implied, but by a bipartisan group of lawmakers. It was definitely stupid of him to lie, but his crime wasn’t stupidity, it was perjury.
And with that, here is Nancy Pelosi’s understanding of impeachable his crimes and misdemeanors:
Bush lied us into war according to Pelosi and that’s not impeachable.
Clinton committed perjury and that shouldn’t have been impeachable.
Trump made an innocuous phone call and that’s super-impeachable.
What was Trump’s impeachable phone crime? Did he butt dial? Not say good-bye before hanging up? Maybe he called when Game of Thrones was on?
Pelosi didn’t even mention Barack Obama who committed dozens of impeachable crimes: legislating from the Oval Office, spying on Americans, weaponizing his cabinet against his political opponents, sending pallets of cash to America’s enemy, obstructing justice in the Fast & Furious probe, making treaties without Congressional approval, etc…
