This sounds fair. Democratic Senator Pat Leahy, and not Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts, will preside over Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. One of the jurors, from the team who impeached Trump, will also be the HLIC (Head Liberal In Charge) of the proceedings. Democrats sure like rigging things in their favor, don’t they?
Nancy Pelosi and the House democrats, with 10 traitor Republicans, impeached Donald Trump days from the end of his term. Though she said it was urgent to remove Trump from office, she sat on the articles of impeachment until well after Trump left the White House. The Senate trial to remove Trump from office, something that has already happened, is slated to begin sometime in February.
That trail however won’t have Chief Justice John Roberts presiding over it because he recognizes the unconstitutionality of impeaching a president after he’s left office. The Constitution requires that the SCOTUS Chief Justice preside over the trail of a sitting president, and since Trump ain’t that, he’s not going to participate in the democrats’ vindictive shitshow.
According to The Hill, the democrats have found a replacement to preside over this unconstitutional sham:
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will not preside over former President Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, which is scheduled to begin in earnest on Feb. 8.
Instead, Senate President Pro Tempore Patrick Leahy (Vt.), the most senior member of the Senate Democratic Conference, will preside over the trial.
Leahy on Monday confirmed he would wield the gavel and promised to administer “impartial justice.”
“The president pro tempore has historically presided over Senate impeachment trials of non-presidents,” said Leahy.
Define “historically.” When has the Senate ever held a trial to impeach a former president after he has left office? Here’s a hint: it’s never happened before.
As much bullshit as this whole thing is, Leahy says it’s okay because he’s taking a double-oath to be fair and impartial:
“When presiding over an impeachment trial, the president pro tempore takes an additional special oath to do impartial justice according to the Constitution and its laws. It is an oath that I take extraordinarily seriously,” Leahy said.
So prior to presiding over an impeachment trial, democrats don’t take an oath to uphold the Constitution? I did not know that but it explains so much.
For the record, Leahy voted to convict Trump during his first impeachment trail last year, so you really couldn’t find a more impartial person to preside over his second impeachment trial. Oh wait, yes you could.
Republican Senator John Cornyn from Texas summed up the ridiculousness of this all:
“The Constitution requires that the chief justice preside over the impeachment trial of a president but that’s not what we’re doing. To me that’s indicative of the fact that we’re in uncharted waters. I just think it looks very petty and vindictive and I understand there are a lot of people who are mad but the process itself already looks like a railroad job,” said Cronyn.
Cronyn is working under the false assumption that democrats give a shit if anyone thinks they are being fair and impartial.
I’m a bit psychic and I already know how Leahy will preside over this farce:
1 – Trump won’t be allowed to defend himself against the false charged leveled at him.
2 – Leahy will lower the threshold to convict from 67 Senators to 50 Senators.
3 – Everyone will be required to say “F*ck Trump” when they are sworn in.
Why even have a trail? Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer should just declare that Trump is guilty and have the former President banished to Monster Island.
