Georgetown And Columbia Have Segregated Graduation Ceremonies For Aggrieved Minority Groups

“Multicultural” literally means a mixing of the cultures. Georgetown University and Columbia university are hosting separate “Multicultural” graduations for a variety of aggrieved minority students, making them “unicultural” ceremonies. When people are separated by race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and economic status, as these schools have done, that’s called segregation, something we were lead to believe is bad.

Here are the segregated graduation ceremonies offered up by Georgetown:

The Multicultural Graduations are part of the official Georgetown University commencement schedule and are a way to bring students of color together for a final ceremony before graduation. Upon attending, each student will be honored with a stole. There are three ceremonies:

Asian Heritage celebrates the achievements of our Asian American and Pacific Islander graduates and allies of the Georgetown University AAPI community. It aims to recognize the achievements of the graduates, and celebrate the cultures and legacies that shaped their journeys here at the Hilltop.

Harambee is an annual ceremony dedicated to recognizing graduating seniors who identify with communities of the African Diaspora. This ceremony collectively celebrates the individual achievements of students in obtaining college diplomas and honors the community and legacy Black graduating students have created and actively cultivated here at Georgetown.

Despedida is an annual ceremony dedicated to celebrating the cultural diversity and history of the Latinx community and Chicanas/Chicanos at Georgetown University. This unique celebration serves to recognize the completion of a rigorous journey through academia and involvement in various organizations at Georgetown.

How come the Asians don’t get a cool name for their segregated graduation ceremony? Also, wasn’t Harambee that ape from the Cincinnati zoo that had to be killed because a shitty mom let her 3-year-old climb in the cage? It seems kind of racist to name the black graduation after a primate.

Georgetown however seems like they’re asleep compared to the wokeness of Columbia:

In honor of Columbia’s diverse student community and complementing the school- and University-wide graduation ceremonies, we are proud to also offer Multicultural Graduation Celebrations, which provide a more intimate setting for students who self-identify in a variety of ways.

Multicultural Graduation Celebrations

Sunday, April 25, 4:00 p.m.: Native Graduation Celebration

Monday, April 26, 4:00 p.m.: Lavender Graduation Celebration

Tuesday, April 27, 10:00 a.m.: Asian Graduation Celebration

Tuesday, April 27, 7:00 p.m.: FLI Graduation Celebration

Thursday, April 29, 6:00 p.m.: Latinx Graduation Celebration

Friday, April 30, 4:00 p.m.:  Black Graduation Celebration

If you are wondering what “FLI” graduation is, it’s for poor people. No, seriously. They have a separate graduation ceremony for economically depressed people. The “Lavender” graduation is what they have hilariously named the LGBT ceremony.

I noticed that neither of these schools have a graduation ceremony for white people. I am assuming that white students are still allowed to graduate (maybe not) but they certainly don’t get to celebrate in ways that their minority classmates do.

The next obvious step these institutes of higher learning will take is to have separate water fountains and bathrooms for minority students. You can’t undo the racism of the past without repeating it.
