Russian NHL Payers Complain They Experience Racism Over Ukraine Invasion

As you know, Def-Con News catalogs all of the ridiculous things that get branded racist. The latest form of insidious racism is white people calling Russian-born hockey players “nazis.” Many Russian NHL players are complaining that they are experiencing racism because their home country invaded Ukraine. This may not count as an official “stupid things that are racist” because it’s not coming from the liberals, but it is still stupid.

Fox News reports:

NHL players from Russia and Belarus are facing an immense amount of harassment since the attacks on Ukraine began last week, and several of them have even received death threats, according to one agent who is asking people to “stop looking at them as aggressors.”

Dan Milstein, a Ukrainian-born agent who represents the majority of those athletes being targeted in the league, told ESPN this week his clients have become concerned for their safety as they face increasing harassment.

“The discrimination and racism these Russian and Belarusian players are facing right now is remarkable. We’re being set back 30 years. I have players calling me, parents calling me. They’re concerned whether they’ll be able to play, whether they’ll be safe,” said Milstein.

Racism? These are all white players and 99.9% of hockey fans are white.

“Clients are being called Nazis. People are wishing that they are dead. These are human beings. These are hockey players. These are guys contributing to our society, paying millions of dollars in taxes to support the U.S. and Canada and doing all kinds of charity work back home. Stop looking at them as aggressors. Stop being racist,” Milstein said.

It’s even crazier because this agent is from Ukraine and he’s representing Russian and Belarusian hockey players. I don’t know about Belarus, but Russia gets money from the NHL. The league pays Russia for the privilege of having Russian players play in the NHL. Milstein is helping fund the destruction of his home country.

The problem is these Russian players refuse to denounce Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine. And the reason is because they support him.

Alexander Ovetchkin of the Washington Capitols is the biggest Russian-born NHL player and he’s a Putin fanboy. This was what he had to say about Putin killing innocent Ukrainian civilians:

“Well, he is my president. But how I said, I am not in politics. I am an athlete, and you know, how I said, I hope everything is going to be done soon. It’s hard situation right now for both sides and everything. Everything I hope is going to end. I’m not in control of this situation,” said Ovetchkin.

That’s hardly a condemnation of the atrocities being committed by “his president.” Hoping it ends soon isn’t that same thing as saying Putin is wrong and should stop immediately.

It’s not a hard situation for both sides, it’s exclusively Ukraine experiencing hardship.

If the NHL had any balls at all, they would nullify all Russian and Belarusian player contracts and ban them from playing in the league. Then again, if Joe Biden had any balls, he’d stop buying oil from Russia.
