In soon-to-be ex-presidential candidate Cory Booker’s gun control plan, he would ban semi-automatic firearms that he thinks look scary and institute a mandatory “buyback” forcing gun owners to surrender their weapons. Failure to comply would mean a felony conviction and prison. If this sounds unconstitutional and fascist, that’s because it is, but according to the NJ democrat it actually represents “freedom and liberty.”
Vox is the dumb liberal website that explains the news to dumber liberals. They got one of their liberal dummies to interview another liberal dummy and the result was…well, dumb. Booker was asked about his efforts to implement his gun control plans and the answer was the single dumbest thing ever published on Vox, which is saying a lot.
“We should be able to stand up and have a bold statement of American freedom again — that Americans should be free from fear, that Americans should be free from the threats of violence, that this is an assault on our basic liberties as Americans to be able to go to a shopping mall or a synagogue or a concert, or kids should be able to go to school without having to be taught about how to hide in our country,” said Booker.
So going to the mall is a basic liberty but gun ownership is not? Paying $500 to see Taylor Swift is a protected civil right but to keep and bare arms is not? I know he took an oath to defend the Constitution but I’m guessing he didn’t actually read it.
Don’t worry, Booker would articulate his belief that the real right of gun ownership is antithesis to the fake right of not being scared of things that are unlikely to happen.
“I want Democrats to go on the offensive on this issue, to say that we are the party of gun safety, we are the party of security and strength. And most of all, we’re the party of liberty and freedom, which the gun lobby wants to steal from us and to turn us into a country with a culture of fear,” Booker said.
Keep in mind that he’s talking about confiscating legally-owned firearms from people who have neither been convicted of or accused of a crime. That violates at least 3 Constitutional amendments and generally speaking, stripping people of their rights is the opposite of liberty and freedom.
And just in case you weren’t sure that Booker is talking about a massive confiscation of weapons, he dropped this:
“I just think that we need to go as far as we possibly can in removing these weapons of war from our communities and from our streets,” said Booker. “I would like to see a buyback program and a mandatory turnover.”
While it seems like Booker is only going after full-auto firearms, he actually thinks semi-automatic rifles are “weapons of war.” He wants to take tens of millions of guns by any means necessary.
One of the most absurd things about this is that Booker thinks confiscating guns from Americans will be a peaceful easy process. He even thinks that the criminals will voluntarily surrender their illegal firearms. He’s either on crack or just naturally delusional because an attempt by the government to disarm the people will trigger a bloody civil war and without Eric Swalwell’s nuclear weapons, the government will pay a heavy price.
The greatest thing about this interview is that Booker was never asked about the constitutionality of his plan to tear up the Bill of Rights. Democrats point to the Clinton-era Assault Weapons Ban to show that it’s completely legal, but they are missing a couple of factors:
The 1994 AWB didn’t include confiscation and it was before the DC v. Heller Supreme Court decision. Heller states very clearly that people have a right to own guns “in common use” for lawful purposes. There are over 30 million AR-15s in private hands, which is as “common use” as it gets. Banning “assault rifles” would be as impossible as confiscating them.
