Musician political opinions are like actor political opinions in that they don’t mean much. I did however find a couple of rocker takes on politics that really contrasts the difference between conservatives and liberals that’s pretty interesting. Slayer’s conservative frontman wants you to think for yourself, while Guns ‘N Roses liberal frontman wants to do all of your thinking for you. Liberals are constantly accusing conservatives of fascism, but these same people want to dictate how everyone thinks and behaves and they get violently angry at anyone who won’t comply.
Tom Araya plays bass and sings for thrash metal gods Slayer. He has in the past expressed some fairly conservative views including support for President Trump and gun ownership rights. Recently he posted this thing to his Instagram, that melted some of his liberal snowflake fans:

As you can see Araya posted a meme showing the difference between grounded conservatives and hysterical liberals. It’s pretty spot on and the overall message is that conservatives are capable of independent thought and don’t follow the outraged herd like liberals do.
Accompanying this post, Araya wrote, “With all the crazy shit going on I have to ask.
I sit on the fence of reason. Comments [and] opinions welcomed.”
On top of highlighting conservative independent thought, Araya is also encouraging people to think for themselves and welcoming any and all opinions.
Now lets see what’s up with Guns ‘N Roses singer Axl Rose, who has been a vocal opponent of President Trump and even had fans bash a Trump piñata at a concert in Mexico:

Hmm, it seems as if Axl would like us all to vote for democrats. Actually, this is not something he’d like but rather is demanding. Plus he called us all bitches which is pretty rude even for an asshole like him.
Axl isn’t inviting people to participate in the democratic process or to express their own political views, he’s saying, “Do as I say. Think as I think.” This is the complete opposite of Araya’s message of free thought. Axl is trying to do all of the thinking for you while demanding compliance to his ideology.
I have pretty diverse musical tastes and I genuinely like both of these bands. Truth be told, I f*cking love Slayer, but I also enjoy Guns ‘N Roses. I don’t pick what music I listen to because I agree or disagree with a band’s political points of view, I listen to stuff that kicks ass. Axl being an intolerant thought-Nazi isn’t going to make me hate G ‘N R and Araya being an enlightened free-thinker isn’t going to make me any bigger fan of Slayer.
I just thought these two social media posts were a perfect way to frame the difference between conservatives and liberals. Being conservative means being who you are while liberalism is all about being told who to be. If you are conservative and your opinion on the issues is a little different, that’s fine nobody is going to torch your car over it. If you are a liberal and your opinion differs a little from the official party line, you will get death threats.
