During his unsuccessful run for president, Beto O’Rourke said he was definitely going to take away everyone’s AR-15s. Now that he’s launched a soon-to-be unsuccessful bid for Texas Governor, he realizes that message ain’t going to fly in the Lone Star State, so he’s flip-flopped his position. He now claims he no longer wants to take anyone’s guns but there’s no reason to believe him.
At the September 2019 democratic primary debate, Beto O’Rourke came up with his most defining quote:
“Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans any more,” said O’Rourke.
Days later, O’Rourke’s presidential campaign folded, with him having gained exactly zero percent support.
Polls show him getting slaughtered by incumbent Republican Greg Abbott in the Texas governor’s race, so he thought he’d switch things up. According to KLTV, O’Rourke was recently asked if he still want’s to confiscate people’s firearms:
“I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment,” O’Rourke said.
That’s quite a turn around, isn’t it? It’s also bullshit because this is the next thing he said:
“I want to make sure that we protect our fellow Texans far better than we’re doing right now. And that we listen to law enforcement, which Greg Abbott refused to do. He turned his back on them when he signed that permitless carry bill that endangers the lives of law enforcement in a state that’s seen more cops and sheriff’s deputies gunned down than in any other,” said O’Rourke.
If his interest is defending the 2nd Amendment, his priority wouldn’t be to enact more gun control laws. He says very clearly that he wants to get rid of permitless carry, which means he wants to make a law restricting the bearing of arms. The 2nd Amendment protects he right to both keep and bear arms.
Another way to tell that O’Rourke is full of shit is because just 2 months ago, he was still saying “hell yes” to gun bans and confiscations. When asked on CNN if he still stands by “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15″ O’Rourke confirmed he does:
“Look, we are a state that has a long, proud tradition of responsible gun ownership, and most of us here in Texas do not want to see our friends, our family, our neighbors shot up with these weapons of war, so yes I still hold this view,” O’Rourke said.
So 2 months ago he was still in favor of gun confiscation and now he says he doesn’t want to take anything form anybody? He’s really counting on voters being stupid, isn’t he? I guess that’s pretty much the strategy for all democrats because intelligent informed voters would never cast a ballot for any of these assholes.
The actual idiot in all of this is Beta O’Dork because he thinks softening his anti-gun extremism slightly will be a winning platform in Texas. No amount of gun control is going to put someone in the Texas State House so unless he comes out as a pro-gun candidate, his campaign is doomed to fail. And even then, he’s still a hipster doofus furry, so he may want to confront the fact that he’s unelectable.
